APPLE! 2AM!
I’m really excited about the upcoming Apple announcement that is to be made at 2am tomorrow, Singapore time. Everyone is catching the buzz because even the mass media is also reporting about it. Talk about getting free publicity for something that hasn’t been confirmed by the company itself. Heh~
Well… I will definitely be staying up to listen in to the announcement as it happens. Some in my lab mentioned why the few hours difference will make a difference. But that’s because I want to be one of the first to know. (And Singapore news is always 24 hours or more late in reporting technology news anyways.)

Apple Event Live Blog
Steve Jobs says, “We want to kick off 2010 by introducing a truly magical and revolutionary new product.” Haha… Way to go Steve; set the expectations of your audience way~ high when they are already high from all the rumor wine that they have been drinking the past few days/weeks/months.
iPad is Officially Launched
- Specifications:
- 0.5” thick, 700g
- 9.7” (diagonal) IPS display
- Powered by Apple’s in-house chip A4, running at 1GHz
- 10 hours of battery life (which may translate to real life 5-6 hours)
- Comes with 3G connection, with iPad specific data plans
- Choice of WiFi only iPad, or top up to get the built in 3G antenna
- Software:
- Able to run iPhone applications at its native resolution or doubled so that it fills up the screen
- Otherwise developers could modify their current applications and have them make full use of the iPad real estate
Quick Thoughts and Observations
- The bezel of the iPad is uncharacteristically *thick* for an Apple product. (Space for hand grip / fingers?)
- It comes with a full screen keyboard that is similar to that of the iPhone. Typing is to be done with fingers and not just the thumbs like the iPhone. (Bluetooth support but no mention of whether it will support keyboards. Doesn’t make sense for it to be limited like the iPhone to headset only, since it’s not a phone…)
- May add a Keyboard Dock to the iPad to use it like a regular laptop(?). But I would very much prefer using the Bluetooth keyboard that Apple is already delivering with their desktops.
- The UI for iCal is stylized, making it have the look and feel of a Moleskin notebook.
- It has it’s own native Youtube client.
- Built in photo browser with similar metaphor borrowed from iPhoto. Like the iPods, it is able to create photos slideshow on the fly~
- Seems like Apple has got the dimensions right in the sense that a lady should be able to handle the iPad fairly easily.
New iBooks Store
- Uses the ePub format, which means that it *may* be possible for one to create his own eBook and upload it into the iPad for viewing.
iWork for iPad
- 9.99USD per application (Pages, Keynote and Numbers). Really cheap for all the functionality that one will be getting.

Who said that the iPad will be a productivity booster? I’ve been gorging myself with all the iPad porn whenever I have some free time. Just watch the product video. It’s amazing.
Notes
- All the executives featured in this video have that glow in their eyes. Is it just the lighting or they are all really obsessed and in love with the iPad just like I am?
- I find it amusing that they call Jonathan Ive as Jony Ive.

Hitler responds to the iPad. A hilarious subtitling of a clip that we are already so familiar with.
The fade-in/-out of the subtitles made it lose a little of its punch though. And the story doesn’t make sense at times. But it’s still extremely funny. Made me giggle uncontrollably in the office.

The article is nothing much related to anything if you don’t follow Microsoft news. BUT… How amazing it is that people are now describing their products and technology “magical” ever since Steve Jobs used it during his magical and revolutionary iPad introduction. Haha…
