Hello from Beijing
Moved from the high class Raffles Beijing Hotel to the more practical Shen Zhou International Hotel. Little did we expect that the difference is so huge right from the beginning — no porter came to our taxis on our arrival, and really rude service at the concierge. Oh well… What to do in a city where volume works. Here’s my mobile workstation! It’s time to start work. :)
[A...

10 Days of Marriage
[Yeah~! I finally have some time to blog~! Actually, maybe it’s I’m finally enough reasons to blog. I still have lots of work to clear… *Sobs*]
So exactly ten days ago, I had a lunch appointment with my boss at Takashimaya. He brought me to this Japanese restaurant at the basement level and we had quite a good lunch! He mentioned that he needed to leave for a while and so I...

Nasty NS Days
I’m probably one of the few Singaporeans when asked whether I feel that I’ve wasted time serving National Service who answers, “Nope.” I honestly felt that I had a blast picking up new knowledge in my unit, which actually paved quite a nice foundation into IT and networking for me.
That was until my Platoon Commander showed up.
[This is where the nasty bits come up. Do...

Whoa~ What should I do when one of my favourite comedian on my favourite news program is being so offensive towards my favourite company?
Then again, a lot of the details shared are not actually accurate. I still love Jon Stewart. I still love Apple.
By the way, good dig at AT&T there. :D
[Update 30 May — Oh, and how can I forget the “There’s an app for that” jab....

How This Saturday Was Spent
Fruitfully.
Began this morning with a continuation of my work on a set of presentation slides for one of my clients. It’s a pity that they are using Microsoft PowerPoint (like the 90% others in the world) and therefore I had to get myself deep into the murky fields of Microsoft Office once again. Fortunately it was actually rather easy to toggle between Keynote and PowerPoint. I used the...

New MacBook Pro
While Apple continues to torture tease us with leaked news of an impending MacBook Pro update, I shall distract myself with plans that I’ve made for it.
Laptop Case
The Sumo Laptop Sleeve that I’ve been using for my current laptop was definitely a good investment. But I’ve been eyeing for a new one to replace it, especially since the fabric had frayed at several locations due to...

– — 肖鼠者2010虎年运程详解
Funny that I decide to search for my 运程 only after I’ve made a major decision. And I’m surprised to see how well it fits me (or how good I am at reading what I want to read). In any case, they are all rather good advice to take heed of. Shall pay attention to them and...

Unreleased Core i7 MacBook Pro 6,1? →
090210 9:30pm: OH MY GOD. Apple Store is now down. This is usually a huge sign that some hardware refreshing is coming. Could it be my MacBook Pro?!
Move along if you aren’t interested in Apple product release news. Otherwise, I just wanna rant that all these clues about an impending release of a revised MacBook Pro is just making me crazy.
It’s old news that my current...

A Letter to His Dead Girlfriend
The letter that is shown after the break was selected as one of the “Best Of Criagslist”, and was nominated by the readers from Criagslist. The emotions that were expressed seemed so real and I concluded that it had to be real.
The guy is coincidentally at the same age as me, and I cannot imagine myself going through the same experience. It’s gut wrenching to realize that he and...

Movist: The Real Alternative to VLC for Mac →
From MacStories
Where Movist really outstands the competition is in file support. It’s the only app that played my .mkv files perfectly, even when VLC was crashing. Not to talk about .mp4 and .avi support, pretty obvious. Moreover, Movist plays .wmw files faster than Quicktime, and you can also switch from FFmpeg to Quicktime playback with a single click on a toolbar button. Awesome.
What I...

APPLE! 2AM!
I’m really excited about the upcoming Apple announcement that is to be made at 2am tomorrow, Singapore time. Everyone is catching the buzz because even the mass media is also reporting about it. Talk about getting free publicity for something that hasn’t been confirmed by the company itself. Heh~
Well… I will definitely be staying up to listen in to the announcement as it...

Henrietta Everlasting: 1950s Cells Still Alive,... →
This article is about how a bunch of cells collected in 1951 from a lady has been helping in the development of various science fields till today. Wow… I’d be pretty proud of myself if I could have a NZJ cell line that is as useful as hers. The chart is one mega-infographic-porn.
Other useful cell lines are listed above. I believe my lab has 3T3, MCF7 and COS7. I never knew where...

Today is a very bad day.
Started off with uncompleted overnight disk check.
Then overslept on the bus;
accompanied with a long walk back to the bus stop.
A painfully long session on how to clean lab equipment;
which caused lunch appointment to cancel on me.
Discussion about my pay was stalemate.
Lunch was at three plus.
Have too much data to backup;
Two external hard disks aren’t enough.
Some data even...
